DOUBLE WALL INSULATED CAP
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
100011 The present invention generally relates to a wood or combustion stove
or furnace
installation, and more particularly, to a double wall insulated chimney flue
pipe, cap, that when
used, saves energy both summer and winter, and entails a double wall feature
which accepts all
standard sized flue openings.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
100021 Combustion heating units, such as furnaces or stoves, whether utilizing
wood or other
forms of fuel to generate heat, all require a smoke evacuation conduit, a flue
pipe leading to a
chimney, is common place.
It is such that these are popular devices for heating in residential and
commercial buildings.
100031 When such a unit is not in use, however, the opening within the unit,
connected to a flue
leading outside forms a passage, through which heated air or cooled air can
escape from the
interior of the building.
A Double Wall Insulated Cap installed anywhere along the flue but most
effectively at the
exterior wall opening to the chimney bottom would be so much more effective
than just leaving
that open hole.

[0004] Few innovations for a quick and easily used flue plug or cap have been
previously put
forth in prior art. For example: US1771956A patent to Gleiden 29 July 1930 (29-
07-1930)
discloses a device of preparing for a flue stopper or plug, for closing stove
pipe openings of
chimneys, the primary object of the invention being to provide a device of
this character which
will insure a close fit so that smoke and soot cannot pass into the room. Note
no consideration is
given with regards to heat retention in the room.
Also this device does not fit into a regular chimney flue opening without
modifying the wall
opening to accept the device.
Therefore the outer section of the flue stopper is to be permanently affixed.
Also this is a two
part device, that is the outer concrete section is made to accept the heavy
concrete flue stopper
proper, sliding it in or out.
"A flue stopper comprising an inner tapered tubular member to be secured
within a chimney
opening, a removable body portion, an extension forming part of the body
portion to fit within
the outer section", depicts clearly a two part device, with one of two, heavy
parts, being affixed
into the wall. Note wall installation is required.
Also is US84385 A patent to Weller 12 February 1907 (12-02-1907) which
discloses a device
"to provide an improved flue-stop which will form an absolute soot and fire
proof closure for the
flue." "To this end the invention comprises, essentially, a cover-plate
fitting over the end of the
flue, a peculiarly constructed clamping member fitting within the flue and
held spaced from the
cover-plate, and a clamping bolt passing through the cover-plate and
cooperating with the
clamping member," with an end nut.
Please note this device has no insulation value, there are not even walls to
it. Although, it
provides for a tight fit, when tightened into place, there is no core body of
insulation present in

order to prevent heat loss. And because there are no side walls to contain
insulation, it cannot be
added without significant change to the device.
This device has a center clamping bolt which passes through it and holds it
all together. This bolt
also serves the function of being the puller bolt, that when turned pulls the
clamping member
causing expansion within. This devices center bolt has to be turned or screwed
with a
screwdriver to tighten it in place or to untighten and remove it.
[0005] Therefore, a here to for unaddressed need still exists in the art to
address the
aforementioned deficiencies and inadequacies.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0006] In one aspect the present invention relates to a stove or combustion
unit flue pipe cap or
plug device, to be installed over a flue pipe open end, when the combustion
unit is not in use. In
one embodiment, the "Double Wall Insulated Cap" device includes a hooked style
metal handle
for hanging and storage purposes. It also embodies an inner concentric metal
wall cavity or core,
containing two and one half (2 Y2) inches of fire resistant insulation, and
capped with a
concentric metal cover plate. A space or gap in between the core and the outer
cap wall creates a
channel way, where the metal open flue pipe end, slides in and sort of wedges
in and seals the
connection.
[0007] In one embodiment the "Double Wall Insulated Cap" includes, one
standard size metal,
concentric cylindrical unit capped at one end, in other words a regularly sold
chimney cap.

Attached is a hooked metal handle protruding outward from the center. Attached
within, is
another concentric cylindrical core wall part, of a slightly, smaller
diameter, using rivets to
secure it inside the cap. Two and one half (2 1/2) inches of fire resistant
insulation is slid into the
core and a concentric end plate caps the core part of the double wall
insulated cap.
A hole is drilled through the center of both end plates allowing for a bolt to
be inserted through
the center of the concentric cylindrical unit, end to end, attaching and
tightening all the depicted
parts together by tightening down a few nuts present, all materials used
consist of high
temperature and low rust endurance metals.
[0008] These and other aspects of the present invention will become apparent
from the following
description of the preferred embodiment taken in conjunction with the
